Deep in the Welsh mountains, far from his father’s court, Tobias lives a relatively normal life for a 12-year-old prince. Second in line for the throne, he is free to spar with his ferociously stubborn sister, Floria, and bicker with his older brother Adrian. However, tensions grow at the royal court, and a wild fae magic awakens in the dark woods.  A clash of powers and a whirlwind of betrayals force Tobias to flee his idyllic childhood home.

 

Alone and frightened, Tobias is taken in by an old blind man who is far more than he appears. He talks to animals, meets with fairies and kelpies, and a mysterious door in his hut is rumored to lead to the underworld. Tobias’s mysterious mentor promises him that the same magic is slumbering within him. The betrayed prince must gather the courage to face the terrifying dangers of the magical realm and discover the true source of his powers if he ever hopes to save his family. With the guidance of his mentor and an alliance with Fae Folk, spirits from the underworld, and a secret society of magical creatures, an unlikely rebellion brews to support the boy who would, if he survives, become their king.
